Surviving the Holocaust
The Surviving the Holocaust project presents upper-level German language students with an archive of original audiotaped interviews with five German Holocaust survivors: Katja Behrens, Inge Deutschkron, Ingeborg Hecht, Ruth Klüger, and Angelika Schrobsdorff. All are women who went on to become well-known writers, and the archive not only includes transcripts of the interviews, but a wealth of supporting materials, including excerpts from published works (mostly autobiographical), historical texts, audiovisual material, photographs, and maps. Designed to provide insight into a key period of German history, Surviving the Holocaust also engages students in interpreting and analyzing historic materials while strengthening and refining language skills.
