Made in Belgium
Made in Belgium is an online teaching resource designed to enhance students’ understanding of French language and to expand their view of the Francophonic world. This multimedia archive introduces students to Belgian culture and history through the personal stories of a variety of Belgian contemporary artists, including clothing designers, bakers, chocolatiers, and jewelers. Students can choose to focus on specific interview segments, texts, or images, and they can build collections, collaborate and compare findings. The prototype of the archive, currently containing approximately 200 photographs, video clips, and text files, focuses on Belgian design, gastronomy, and graphic arts, among other topics. Students can use the materials to explore such issues as bilingualism, multiculturalism, localism, and globalism as well as the preservation of Belgian traditions in the 21st century. Topics to be developed in the future include Belgian history, the European Union and Belgium, architecture, painting, and literature.
