US-Iran - Missed Opportunities
The US-Iran Relations project explores the period since the Islamic revolution in Iran and asks why improvements in bilateral relations did not occur. "We are undertaking research that can lead to a deeper and more productive understanding between the two countries," says John Tirman, CIS executive director and an organizer of the project. "Innovative engagement with Iran, rather than posing it as an object of hostility or attack, is not only normatively preferable but vastly more interesting as an intellectual endeavor."
The Hyperstudio is creating a collaborative, multi-lingual environment that allows researchers to explore 1000s of documents from Mohammed Khatemi’s presidency in Iran, in support of their research endeavors. The platform is being created in close collaboration with John Tirman and partners at the Watson Institute for International Studies at Brown University and the National Security Archive at George Washington University. The project is funded by an MIT alumni donor.
