Hear the podcasts: CMS 10th anniversary symposium
By lisanti on April 20, 2010
Comparative Media Studies (CMS) celebrated its 10th Anniversary! HyperStudio is a research group within CMS and joined several generations of CMS alumni and faculty who gathered to discuss where this program has been and where it’s going. Most of the events were open to the public, and we’ve listed them here.
Integral to the HyperStudio team are the CMS graduate students who play a vital role as digital humanities researchers and faculty lead on projects. Together with the software developers, the project manager, and other team members, they are responsible for developing new concepts and innovative ways to integrate traditional humanities scholarship with new digital opportunities. Current HyperStudio graduate students Madeleine Elish and Nick Seaver were there; several of HyperStudio’s former graduate students (Christopher York, ’01, Karen Verschooren, ’07, Whitney Trettien, ’09, among others) have remained connected to HyperStudio in one or the other way and are still contributing to the research of HyperStudio.
The CMS 10th anniversary symposium kicked off at 5pm, Thursday, April 22, with CMS co-directors Henry Jenkins and William Uricchio. Henry delivered his final address and William will moderate the Communications Forum at Bartos Theater in the I.M. Pei Media Lab building.
On Friday, April 23, there was a whole day of panel sessions at the Maki Fumihiko Media Lab building, a whole day of scintillating discussions about the work of CMS and its alums. There was a gallery of alumni work for you to peruse, and GAMBIT loaded up games on a mammoth arcade cabinet.
